THE SEASON OF EASTER

The readings from The Acts of the Apostles relate the experiences of the early church. The Epistle readings from John emphasize the importance of love in the lives of the faithful.  John’s Gospel urges Easter people to be engrafted in the True Vine of Christ.

May 6- Philip baptizes an Ethiopian in Acts.

John calls us to live changed lives and bear fruit as pruned branches.  Holy Communion;  Pastor Heberling will preach.

May 13-Mother’s Day/Christian Home; we will receive a special offering for Homewood Homes, providing support for those residents who have exhausted their funds.  Envelopes will be in the pews on the 6th and the 13th.

May 13-Festival of the Christian Home. Acts tells of Peter in the home of Cornelius.  John exhorts believers to be guided by love.  Pastor Heasley will preach.

May 20- the Last Sunday of the Season. In Acts, Matthias is chosen to replace Judas.  John gives the promise of eternal life and sets the stage for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

May 27-Pentecost - the Birth of  the Church. Ezekiel tells of the Valley of Dry Bones coming to life.  In Acts, the flames of the Holy Spirit give LIFE to the church.  John’s Gospel promises the Advocate to guide believers to The TRUTH.  Rev. Heasley will lead worship.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

It’s hard to believe we are approaching Easter already.  This wonderful weather has given us renewed energy!  The attendance in our Sunday school has been consistent, with our high school class taking the “awards!”  Garrison, Elliot, Cole, and Luke have had nearly perfect attendance.  We appreciate their willingness to be consistent and helpful, and to take part in services and activities!

We have enjoyed our “Sunday school configuration” this year, and plan to continue this in the future.  We are projecting our class sizes for the fall, and will need new staff!  Trinity is working on a “safe church policy” with one stipulation being two teachers per classroom.  This means 2 adults in the nursery during both the Sunday school and church hour, and two teachers (or a teacher and aide) in each grade level.  We really need your help to make this a success.

As stated in the past, this does not necessarily mean you have to be committed for the whole year.  It would be wonderful to have a set of teachers that are consistent in each classroom; however, we have experimented this year with some “sharing,” and found that the children adjust to those who are there.

Your commitment could be for a month, or every other week, or 2 months, or ½ a year, whatever time you are able to give.  We are willing to work with you.  A month at a time worked quite well in the Nursery, and the children get to know all of us!

As we look to the fall, we are going to need 2 at all times in the nursery class, 2 in the age 3-K classroom, and 2 in the grade 1-3 classroom.  We are hoping to have a grade 4-6 class with 2 teachers.  The high school class will continue to ‘house’ grades 7-12, with two teachers in that room.  We have been ‘lax’ on the church hour nursery program as we were trying to build up the Sunday school department.  This fall, it seems important to add the element of a nursery program during the 10:30 service.

As you think about ways you can work for the Lord and give of yourselves, PLEASE consider the Christian Education department.  The youth are our future church leaders, and we want to give them the very best that we are able.  They are such an important part of our church life
